Toot et al., I have done some reading on juicing. I do know about carrots, beats, yams, etc. being higher in sugar. It seems the general rule of thumb for veggies is, "everything that grows under ground is higher in sugar. Everything above ground is much less." According to my reading this morning, the best veggies for enhancing the pancreas are:
Alfalfa
olives
asparagus
lettuce
mustard greens
radishes
cabbage
cucumbers
brussels sprouts
string beans
What kind of a juicer do you have, Tom? Are you happy with it's performance? Since my life is topsy-turvy at the moment, I might as well give it a try. I am, however, going to pass on the below the ground veggies for the moment. Heck, (I really wanted to say Hell, here, but for Mom's sake, I decline...) I've made it through colonoscopy juice before. Surely this can't be worse than that. Love you, Mom. Still ready to paint that room in your choice of colors....

So, I just drank about one cup of juice. Ingredients: Alfalfa sprouts, mustard greens, cabbage, radishes, asparagus stumps, and no-oil green olives. I feel slightly sick.
Observations:
Alfalfa doesn't do well in the juicer. This should be eaten on a sandwith with meat, cheese, mayo and rye bread like God intended.
I got the purple cabbage. Makes for a prettier color than green.
Asparagus should also be eaten in hollaiaise sauce, like God intended.
I found a can of olives--no oil, only water and sea salt. I could eat them by the handfuls right out of the can. They are simply delicious without all that oil and low salt.
My juicer is a big mouthed Hamilton Beach. They had one left at Wally-world, regularly 60, on sale for 20, which is why I decided to try it in the first place. Don't know if I would have been willing to lay down the 60 clams.
Here is my question, Toot. I do like to eat alfalfa sprouts, love the new olives, will gladly eat cucumbers and string beans, and brussels sprouts (as long as they are sauteed, not boiled.) The benefit of juicing is that you get many more servings in one sitting, is that correct? The "de-tox" must involve liquids, and not just a boat load of chewed the normal way veggies?
